Rahul’s Tweet Sparks BJP Firestorm Over Nagpur Voter Surge, Fadnavis and Shinde Hit Back
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again locked horns with the Election Commission of India, raising fresh concerns over alleged irregularities in voter registration during the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections. Citing data from Nagpur South West—an electoral stronghold of BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis—Rahul claimed that voter numbers had mysteriously increased by 8%, with certain booths witnessing a spike of 20–50%.
The claims, made via social media, quickly spiraled into a political flashpoint, with BJP leaders countering the allegations and accusing Gandhi of indulging in “fake narrative-building” to deflect from the opposition’s electoral losses.
BJP’s Rebuttal: Voter Rise Happened Across Parties, “Don’t Cherry Pick Data”
Devendra Fadnavis, who recently won the Nagpur South West seat for the fourth consecutive time, didn’t waste time in issuing a detailed rebuttal. He highlighted that more than 25 constituencies across Maharashtra saw a similar rise in voter turnout and registrations, many of which were won by opposition candidates.
Fadnavis cited examples like Nagpur West, Nagpur North, Vadgaon Sheri, and Mumbra, pointing out that in many of these areas, Congress or allies like Sharad Pawar’s NCP emerged victorious. “Rahul Gandhi should have at least spoken to his party workers in Maharashtra before tweeting,” he said, further mocking Rahul by quoting the Hindi proverb, “Jhooth bole, kaala kauwa kaate.”

Maharashtra BJP Chief Chandrashekhar Bawan Kule echoed Fadnavis’s sentiments, stating that Rahul is “spreading lies” to energize demoralized party workers ahead of upcoming elections in Bihar and Maharashtra. He accused Gandhi of showing a lack of understanding of regional political realities and voter patterns.
Eknath Shinde: “When Congress Wins, EC is Fair. When They Lose, It’s Fraud”
Maharashtra Dy CM Eknath Shinde also entered the fray, slamming what he called the “selective outrage” of the Congress leader. Shinde pointed out that when Congress wins—like it did in Karnataka, Telangana, and even some seats in Maharashtra—the Election Commission is praised. But when the results turn unfavorable, allegations of fraud surface.

“This double standard will not fool the public,” said Shinde. He suggested that instead of spreading misinformation, Rahul Gandhi should approach the Election Commission or the court if he has legitimate grievances.
Both BJP and Shinde-led Shiv Sena reminded the public that the Election Commission had already addressed these claims on at least three previous occasions, with no satisfactory response from Rahul’s camp.
