CRPF Jawan Munir Ahmed’s Dismissal: The Controversy Over His Pakistani Wife
Munir Ahmed, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan from Jammu and Kashmir, was dismissed from service for allegedly concealing his marriage to Menal Khan, a Pakistani woman, and allowing her to stay in India beyond her visa’s validity. The CRPF cited violations of service rules and national security concerns as reasons for his dismissal. This case has sparked debate due to its sensitive nature, involving cross-border marriage and security implications.
Munir Ahmed married Menal Khan via video call on May 24, 2023. He claims he informed CRPF authorities about the marriage in October 2023, submitting all necessary documents, including affidavits and the marriage certificate.

According to Munir, he received formal permission from CRPF headquarters in April 2024. Menal entered India on a short-term visa in February 2025 through the Wagah-Attari border. Her visa expired in March 2025, and Munir applied for a long-term visa for her.

Reasons for Dismissal
The CRPF dismissed Munir without a formal inquiry, invoking rules that allow immediate termination when national security is at risk. The authorities accused him of hiding his marriage and knowingly harboring a Pakistani national past her visa’s validity, actions they deemed a threat to national security. This decision came amid heightened security measures following the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people and led to a crackdown on Pakistani nationals in India.
Munir’s Defense
Munir denies the allegations, asserting that he followed protocol by informing the CRPF and providing documentation. He claims to have proof of his communications and approvals from the department. Shocked by the dismissal, he has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for justice and plans to challenge the decision in court.
Legal Developments
Menal Khan faced deportation but received a last-minute stay from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, allowing her to remain in India temporarily. The case remains under legal scrutiny, with Munir’s court challenge pending. This case highlights the complexities of cross-border relationships in the context of India-Pakistan tensions. It raises questions about balancing national security with individual rights, especially when procedural transparency is contested. The outcome of Munir’s legal battle could set a precedent for similar cases.
