Prime Minister Launches Infrastructure Projects and Odisha Vision Plans, Skips US Invite to Prioritize State Agenda

Bhubaneswar, June 20, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bhubaneswar, where he launched a series of development projects worth over ₹18,700 crore and released long-term economic blueprints for Odisha’s future. In a symbolic gesture, Modi said he had declined an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump, choosing instead to be on “Maha Prabhu’s dharti” in Odisha.

The Prime Minister’s visit marked the first anniversary of the BJP-led government in Odisha and highlighted the Centre’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure, mobility, and socio-economic development in the state. His roadshow in Bhubaneswar drew large crowds, as he praised Odisha’s cultural and spiritual significance while promising fast-paced growth.

PM Launches Key Projects and Vision Documents for Odisha’s Future

During the visit, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for several key projects:

    • ₹18,700 crore in development projects across sectors such as drinking water, highways, railways, irrigation, healthcare, and rural infrastructure.

    • Launch of 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) program to promote eco-friendly urban mobility.

    • Flagging off new railway services, including the first-ever rail connectivity for Boudh district.

    • Release of Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047, outlining goals to make Odisha a $500 billion economy by 2036 and $1.5 trillion by 2047.

In addition, Modi unveiled the Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana, a scheme to preserve the legacy of Odisha’s cultural icons by developing their birthplaces into heritage villages. He also interacted with and praised over 16.5 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’—women beneficiaries of self-help group initiatives empowered through central schemes.

Another major highlight was the announcement of a digital donation platform for the Jagannath Temple in Puri, integrating modern systems with religious traditions. The Vision Documents, prepared with inputs from over 3.2 lakh citizens, provide a roadmap for inclusive growth, aiming to align Odisha’s development with India’s centenary milestones.
