Authorities have taken swift action, stopping dam water flow and installing lighting for ongoing rescue operations through the night. Despite an offer from the Indian Army, officials stated they did not invite military support due to lack of operational space at the site.
Rescue Operation in Full Swing as 38 Pulled Out Alive, 6 in ICU
The incident occurred in a densely populated area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, prompting a multi-agency emergency response. Disaster Management Chief Omprakash Bahival revealed that upon receiving news of the collapse, the department activated all relevant teams, including PCMC staff, Aapda Mitra volunteers, the Fire Brigade, and NDRF units.
A total of 38 people have been rescued so far, thanks to the combined efforts of these disaster response teams. Unfortunately, 6 individuals are currently being treated in the ICU, and search efforts continue under the rubble with hopes of finding more survivors. As per Bahival, it is still uncertain if additional victims are trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
In a notable update, Bahival mentioned that the Army had reached out to offer assistance but was not deployed due to spatial limitations at the site. However, a CRPF Brigadier is present on-site, overseeing coordination and offering logistical support. To ensure visibility and safety for night operations, authorities have installed floodlights, and dam water flow has been halted to prevent further complications. Rescue workers are continuing their efforts to clear debris and confirm if any more victims are under the remains of the bridge.
The incident has once again raised concerns over urban infrastructure safety, especially in growing city regions like Pimpri-Chinchwad. As investigations begin into the cause of the collapse, immediate focus remains on rescue and medical assistance, ensuring every trapped individual is accounted for.
