As Jammu grapples with soaring temperatures and escalating air pollution, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has deployed advanced anti-dust guns (anti-smog guns) to significantly reduce airborne pollutants and dust in the city. This proactive step forms part of the city’s broader strategy under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), guided by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and Pollution Control Board regulations. Mounted on vehicles, these powerful machines disperse water mist high into the air, cleansing the atmosphere in Jammu’s busiest areas and improving the overall air quality and public health for residents.

The newly procured anti-smog guns by JMC carry 9,000 litres of water and effectively spray a fine mist of water particles up to 30 feet high. This innovative method traps and neutralizes airborne dust, pollutants, and particulate matter, particularly in high-traffic zones and densely populated neighbourhoods. Locations benefiting from this targeted operation include key areas such as Dogra Chowk, Canal Road, Secretariat Road, Raj Bhawan, Residency Road, Amphalla to High Court Road, Vivekanand Chowk, Vikram Chowk–Airport Road, Gandhinagar, Channi, and Trikuta Nagar.
By actively deploying these anti-dust guns, the municipal authorities aim to counter the adverse effects of vehicular pollution, especially aggravated during peak summer heatwaves. High temperatures often amplify air pollution issues, increasing health risks like respiratory diseases and allergies among residents.
