Delhi’s Train Derailed — No Injuries, No Blood But Definitely Not Reassuring Either

In a concerning incident today, Train No. 64419, a suburban EMU service running between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Ghaziabad, derailed near Shivaji Bridge station in central Delhi. The derailment occurred around 4:00 PM IST on Thursday, June 12, 2025, when the train’s fourth coach slipped off the tracks, triggering immediate alerts across the Delhi railway network.

Thankfully, no injuries or casualties have been reported, and all passengers are safe. The derailment occurred on a section of the Ring Railway between Tilak Bridge and New Delhi stations, one of the busiest urban rail corridors in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The derailment led to suspension of services on nearby lines and emergency deployment of railway maintenance and rescue personnel. Northern Railway officials confirmed that re-railing and restoration work is underway, and a full investigation will follow. The cause of derailment is yet to be determined, but preliminary focus will be on track faults, mechanical issues, or signal-related errors.

How Prepared Is Delhi’s Rail System For Real Emergencies?

Train 64419 is part of Delhi’s critical EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) suburban fleet that connects daily commuters from Ghaziabad, Hazrat Nizamuddin, New Delhi, and other key urban centers. A derailment on this line not only disrupts routine commutes but also raises concerns about railway safety, infrastructure maintenance, and emergency preparedness.

India’s suburban rail system, especially in metropolitan areas like Delhi, carries millions of passengers every day, and any failure can lead to cascading delays and panic. Today’s incident fortunately ended without harm, but it serves as a reminder that regular inspection, maintenance, and modernization of tracks and rakes is critical for preventing accidents.

Railway authorities have assured that a detailed technical audit of the Shivaji Bridge section will be conducted. Passengers on this route are advised to check IRCTC live train updates before making travel plans over the next 24–48 hours, as repair and clearance operations may continue.
