“Conditional Exemption!” Bhushan Kumar’s Plea Saves Diljit’s Shoot Amid Hania Aamir Fallout

In a major update for the Bollywood film industry, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has temporarily lifted its ban on singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh—but only for the completion of his shoot in the war epic Border 2. The decision comes after T-Series head Bhushan Kumar personally intervened, pleading with the union to allow Dosanjh to finish filming, citing the near-completion status of the project.

The controversy began after Dosanjh was accused of acting against national interest for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3. The move sparked massive backlash in India, with FWICE issuing a non-cooperation directive against the actor and calling on producers to refrain from working with him.

However, Bhushan Kumar reportedly made an emotional and practical appeal, assuring the union that Border 2 was nearly finished and that it would be Diljit’s final film under his production house. FWICE granted the exemption strictly for Border 2, but emphasized that the industry-wide ban on Dosanjh remains intact for all future projects.

In response to swirling rumours that he had been replaced, Diljit Dosanjh took to Instagram, posting a behind-the-scenes video from the set of Border 2, where he can be seen performing action scenes. The footage served as a direct rebuttal to speculation, firmly confirming his continued presence in the much-anticipated film.

How FWICE Granted a One-Time Green Light for Border 2

While Border 2 has been granted a conditional go-ahead, FWICE has reiterated that any other production house attempting to cast Diljit Dosanjh must be “prepared to face the consequences.” Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, a vocal member of the film workers’ fraternity, supported the union’s stance and warned producers against defying the directive.

The ban stems from Dosanjh’s decision to collaborate with Hania Aamir, a Pakistani national, during ongoing Indo-Pak tensions. Many within the industry, as well as public commentators, viewed this as a “betrayal of national sentiment.” The union labelled it an act of “confused loyalties,” arguing that such choices could not be tolerated, especially from mainstream Indian actors.

Bhushan Kumar’s compromise—allowing Diljit to complete Border 2 but barring him from future projects under T-Series—helped de-escalate immediate tensions without fully overturning FWICE’s stance.

This episode has not only highlighted the growing scrutiny on cross-border collaborations in Indian cinema but also reinforced the influence of film unions like FWICE, which continue to assert moral and nationalistic oversight on Bollywood’s casting decisions.

As Border 2 moves toward release, all eyes remain on how this controversy will impact Diljit’s future in the Hindi film industry—and whether other producers will dare to take the risk.
