BJP Marches to Bangladesh Deputy Mission in Kolkata, Demands Apology and Action

In a powerful display of cultural solidarity and national pride, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a protest march in Kolkata on Monday, heading straight to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission. The trigger? The alleged vandalism of Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral house in Kushtia, Bangladesh — an act seen by many as a grave insult to Indian heritage and Bengali identity.

Tagore, India’s first Nobel laureate and a towering literary figure, remains a symbol of deep cultural connection between India and Bangladesh. The BJP’s march reflected growing public anger and demanded accountability for what is being called an “attack on cultural legacy.” The incident has sparked diplomatic, cultural, and political ripples across the region.

Tagore’s Legacy Attacked: BJP Calls It a Blow to Shared Heritage

The BJP’s protest wasn’t just a political demonstration — it was a cultural statement. Senior BJP leaders led the march to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, carrying placards and raising slogans, demanding immediate action from the Bangladeshi authorities against the miscreants involved in the vandalism.

They argued that this wasn’t just an attack on a building but on the shared civilizational values that Rabindranath Tagore represents. As a figure celebrated in both India and Bangladesh, any disrespect to his memory resonates beyond borders.

BJP leaders also urged the Government of India to take up the matter diplomatically, ensuring such acts of cultural disrespect are not repeated. Protesters emphasized that protecting Indian heritage abroad is part of India’s soft power diplomacy, and neglecting such incidents would set a dangerous precedent. While the Bangladesh government has not yet issued an official apology or confirmation of punitive action, the protest has added pressure and public attention to the issue. BJP leaders claimed the incident also reflects growing insecurity for minorities and heritage sites in Bangladesh, and called for international cultural accountability.
