    Pakistan’s Retaliation Escalates India-Pakistan Conflict

On May 7, 2025, Pakistan’s heavy artillery shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir killed 10 Indian civilians and injured 30 others, following India’s Operation Sindoor. This military operation targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), prompting a fierce response. The escalation has heightened fears of an India-Pakistan war, with both nations exchanging fire across the border.

    Operation Sindoor and Pakistan’s Response

Operation Sindoor, launched on the night of May 6-7, 2025, was India’s retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The Indian Armed Forces used precision strikes, including missile attacks and kamikaze drones, to destroy terror infrastructure linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Pakistan condemned the strikes as an “act of war,” claiming civilian casualties. In response, Pakistan’s army initiated indiscriminate firing and artillery shelling across the LoC and International Border (IB), targeting civilian areas in Poonch, Rajouri, and Uri sectors. The Indian Army reported responding proportionately, inflicting damage on Pakistan Army posts.

    Civilian Casualties and Rising Tensions

The Pakistani shelling resulted in 10 Indian civilian deaths, including women and children, with 30 injuries reported. Poonch district and Uri sector faced the brunt, with homes and villages hit by heavy mortar shelling. India’s ADG PI Indian Army confirmed the casualties, emphasizing a calibrated response. The Ministry of Defence reported significant losses on the Pakistani side. Amid the live updates on India-Pakistan war, fears of further escalation grow, with Pathankot and northern airports on high alert.
