The Met Gala 2025, held on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City, was a dazzling celebration of fashion and culture. Themed Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, with a dress code of Tailored To You, the event drew inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s Slaves to Fashion, emphasizing diasporic identity and personal style. Indian celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, Kiara Advani, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, made stunning appearances, showcasing Indian representation at global events on the iconic blue carpet.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Historic Debut At Met Gala

Shah Rukh Khan, the first Indian male actor to attend the Met Gala, captivated audiences with his debut appearance. Dressed in a gorgeous ensemble by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, he wore a black superfine wool coat with Japanese horn buttons and a Bengal Tiger Head Cane, blending understated elegance with cultural roots. His look aligned with the theme’s focus on tailored menswear, celebrating cultural identity. Khan’s attendance, motivated by a desire to impress his children, added a heartfelt touch to his mesmerising drip, earning global praise.

Diljit Dosanjh’s Regal Punjabi Pride at Met Gala

Diljit Dosanjh turned heads with a Maharaja-inspired outfit designed by Prabal Gurung. His ivory sherwani, adorned with gold embroidery, a turban with a feather plume, and a ceremonial sword, honored Sikh heritage and Punjabi royalty. The ensemble, featuring Gurmukhi script and cultural symbols, embodied the Tailored To You dress code, merging cultural flair with global fashion. Dosanjh’s bold look marked a significant moment for Indian representation at global events, amplifying Punjabi pride on the blue carpet.

Indian Designers and Bollywood’s Global Impact

Kiara Advani debuted in a striking Gaurav Gupta couture, celebrating motherhood with a gown featuring an antique gold breastplate symbolizing maternal bonds. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, in her fifth Met Gala appearance, wowed in a polka-dot Balmain suit-dress, reinforcing her status as a fashion icon. Designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Manish Malhotra also shone, with Malhotra debuting in a gold-embellished black outfit. These stunning appearances highlighted India’s growing influence, blending cultural roots with global couture, making Met Gala 2025 a landmark for Indian fashion.
