China Supports Pakistan on Pahalgam Attack Inquiry

After the tragic attack in Pahalgam where 27 Indian tourists lost their lives, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply. The Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. In response, India took some strong actions against Pakistan, including dissolving the Indus Water Treaty and cancelling visas for Pakistani citizens.

Following these developments, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, had a phone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. After the call, it became clear that China is standing firmly with Pakistan, supporting its sovereignty and security concerns.

Wang Yi echoed what Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had already said — that India’s accusations against Pakistan are “baseless.” He emphasized that there should be a fair and impartial investigation involving both countries to find the real culprits. Wang Yi also warned that India’s aggressive actions could worsen the already tense situation in the region.

During the conversation, Ishaq Dar thanked China for its continuous and strong support towards Pakistan. He appreciated China’s clear stance in defending Pakistan at a time when international pressure is mounting.

It’s important to note that while India is pushing for tough measures against Pakistan, China’s backing gives Islamabad some breathing room. However, the situation remains delicate, and without careful handling, it could escalate further.

Wang was supposed to meet India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, during the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. However, due to rising tensions with Pakistan, Jaishankar and India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, are now considering skipping the trip to Brazil and staying back in New Delhi instead.

In summary, while India is tightening its stand after the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan is finding strong diplomatic support from China. Both sides are now trading accusations, and calls for an impartial investigation are growing louder. The world will be closely watching how this sensitive situation unfolds in the coming days.
